Cape Town - Thirty-five farm workers were injured when a truck overturned on the R45 between Klapmuts and Simondium near Groot Simonsvlei.

ER24 and the Western Cape Emergency Medical Services (EMS) teams said when they arrived on the scene, the truck was lying on its side.

Russel Meiring from ER24 said the injured were found walking or sitting on the side of the road as they waited for assistance. Medics reported that there were no fatalities but one major injury and a further 34 minor injuries.

The injured man was provided with advanced life support before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

Deanna Bessick, principal communications officer for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) said the truck was carrying adult female farm workers who worked on different farms in the surrounding areas.

Patients were transported to Paarl and Stellenbosch Hospital and Klapmuts, Aan-Het-Pad and Khayamandi Clinics for treatment.

Meiring also said local authorities were on the scene for further investigations. An update will be provided once they have more information.
