Cape Town - The mountain fire above Waverley Hills on the R46 between Ceres and Wolseley is reported to be under control.

According to the Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services, the teams managed to keep the blaze within their control just before lunchtime today.

Since the blaze broke out on Tuesday the fire crew contacted ground teams from Nature Conservation Corporation and CapeNature.

Henley Air managed to drive the fire away from structures and crops, preventing loss of property and livelihoods.

It took about 75 members made up of firefighters, ground team members, air support crew, pilots supported by seven vehicles and two helicopters to get things under control.

The cooler weather, good cloud coverage and the aerial attack on the inaccessible areas all contributed to containing the spread of the fire.

According to the report made public on social media, fire teams were confident that due to favourable conditions, they would be able to contain the fire till the afternoon, after which the monitoring and mopping would continue till late into the night.
