Durban — The KwaZulu-Natal ANC Youth League provincial congress preparatory committee (ANCYL PCPC) has issued a call that will ensure that young people in all corners of the province are given equal access to all sectors of the economy.

The committee issued the mandate last week in eThekwini, during its preparations for the upcoming KZN ANCYL congress to take place on December 9 at a yet-to-be-announced eThekwini venue.

KZN ANCYL spokesperson Sibonelo Nomvalo, in a statement, said that the rebuilding of the province in KZN following the devastating outbreak of Covid-19 and floods would remain incomplete without the involvement of the youth.

“This is so because young people have been adversely affected and require speedy radical intervention,” Nomvalo said. He added that no effort aimed at ensuring the strength of the ANC as a governing party would have a positive impact without the involvement of young people.

“It is for these reasons that the ANCYL PCPC has moved with speed to ensure the convening of the ANCYL provincial congress in KZN, to be attended by delegates from all regions,” Nomvalo said, adding that more details around the congress would be announced at a later date.

Nomvalo went on to say that apart from electing the new, energetic and vibrant leadership, delegates attending the congress would engage robustly on clear programmes of action. “They will also agree on time frames focussing on the implementation of such a programme of action.

“The objective is to reach young people, both in rural and or urban areas of the province. “Critically, the programme of the congress is being packaged to ensure that enough time is set aside to debate the acceleration of the implementation of clear youth empowerment policies of both the ANCYL and its mother body, the ANC.

“The congress will also pay a special focus on what needs to be done to ensure the building of a robust and enduring productive capacity of young people throughout the province.

“It is the view of the ANCYL PCPC that the thrust of youth development should be to equip the youth with the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to enable them to rise to the challenges and cope with the effects of the recession and the collapse of the economy during the Covid-19 and other external factors as a result of South Africa being an integral part of the global economy,” he said.

Nomvalo added that the new leadership of the youth league would be directed by this congress to ensure that all ANC deployees in all spheres of government work with young people to create access to socio-economic opportunities.

“As we approach the upcoming provincial youth league congress, we are calling upon the young lions to debate with a high level of discipline in various programmes and strategies that must be adopted to advance youth development.

“Whilst discussions for leadership preferences are encouraged, organisational discipline should be a defining feature of our engagements,” he concluded.
