Durban — Another vehicle was taken in a home invasion by armed robbers in Newlands West, north of Durban.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that according to the victim, she was at home on Tuesday at 6.50am when she was accosted by eight men.

“At gunpoint, the suspects robbed the victim of her belongings and drove off in the complainant’s vehicle.”

KZN VIP, who were at the scene, said six suspects, all armed, arrived in two VW Polos, one white and one blue, and held up a family.

Spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said the suspects derailed the gate to gain entry to the property. They made off with an undisclosed amount of goods and a Toyota Fortuner.

Naidoo alleged that the suspects fired shots at the property as they fled.

In another incident, a stolen Kia Picanto, laptop and television were recovered after an armed robbery at a Newlands West home on Friday.

Gwala said a case of house robbery was opened at the Newlands East police station.

The complainant alleged that he was at his home at Urnfield Place with his family when they were accosted by five armed men.

“At gunpoint, the suspects robbed the victims of their belongings and drove off in the complainant’s vehicles. One vehicle was later recovered in Ntuzuma,” Gwala said.

Fidelity ADT said that members of Fidelity ADT, metro police K9 unit, Cartrack and the Fidelity Specialised Intervention Unit immediately responded.

Their investigation revealed that the suspects were travelling towards Ntuzuma in one of the stolen vehicles.

Fidelity ADT head of marketing and communications Charnel Hattingh said: “Within minutes the collaborative efforts of all teams involved led to the recovery of the stolen Kia Picanto, television and laptop in the Ntuzuma area.”

She added: “Homeowners are encouraged to conduct regular security assessments in order to resolve any vulnerable or unprotected areas to deter opportunistic criminals. Should you come across a suspect on your property, remain calm and immediately contact your security service provider or the SAPS. Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous.”
