Durban — Within minutes, a multidisciplinary team recovered a vehicle, laptop and television stolen in an armed robbery in Newlands.

Fidelity ADT said that a stolen Kia Picanto, laptop and television were recovered following an armed robbery at a Newlands home on Friday.

The security service said that members of Fidelity ADT, Metro K9, Cartrack and the Fidelity Specialised Intervention Unit immediately responded.

Their investigation revealed that the armed suspects were travelling towards Ntuzuma in the stolen vehicle.

Fidelity ADT head of marketing and communications Charnel Hattingh said: “Within minutes the collaborative efforts of all teams involved led to the recovery of the stolen Kia Picanto, television and laptop in the Ntuzuma area.”

“We commend the teams involved for their swift response, vigilance and bravery.”

“Home owners are encouraged to conduct regular security assessments in order to resolve any vulnerable or unprotected areas to deter opportunistic criminals. Should you come across a suspect on your property, remain calm and immediately contact your security service provider or the South African Police Service. Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous.”

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said a case of house robbery was opened at Newlands East police station for investigation.

The complainant alleged that he was at his place of residence at Urnfield Place in Newlands West with his family when they were accosted by five armed men.

“At gunpoint, the suspects robbed the victims of their belongings and drove off in the complainant’s vehicles. One vehicle was later recovered in Ntuzuma,” Gwala said.
