Durban – The police in KwaZulu-Natal are investigating the murder of a Ndwedwe man who was shot during a burglary.

Spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said the incident took place on Wednesday night at 11pm at the Mthebeni area in Ndwedwe where a 38-year-old man was fatally shot by unknown people.

“He sustainable multiple gunshot wounds on the body. The suspects then drove off in the complaint’s taxi. A case of murder was opened at Ndwedwe police station for investigation.”

According to Reaction Unit South Africa it received a call for assistance from a neighbour who had found Wiseman Bongani Ngcobo unresponsive in his one-room home.

“At approximately 01:09, the Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) operations centre received a call for assistance from a neighbour…The caller informed the controller on duty that he made the discovery during a wellness check after he noticed Ngcobo’s minibus leaving the property at an odd time of the morning. He presumed that the minibus had been stolen and was unaware that his neighbour had been shot,” said spokesperson Prem Balram.

He said his members were immediately dispatched and on arrival found the Ndwedwe SAPS in attendance.

“Medics were directed to the one-room house where the victim was found lying on the floor. He sustained gunshot wounds to his abdomen, left arm, and the rear of his neck. It was alleged that an unconfirmed number of suspects had forced their way into the deceased’s home. It was further alleged that Ngcobo attempted to fight off his attackers when he was shot. His house was ransacked however it could not be confirmed what was stolen. Several spent 9mm cartridges and a projectile were also recovered on scene.”
