Durban — A KwaZulu-Natal heavyweight who cut his teeth in the leadership structures of the ANC Youth League has said the ANC needs to be united in order to be able to deliver quality service delivery to the public.
Arthur Zwane, an underground activist, spent 20 years as the ANC KZN Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) member.
Zwane, from Madadeni, Newcastle, said the ANC should solve its internal problems so it can be able to manage the country and solve issues like gender-based violence and unemployment.
“When there is war within the party, the ANC focuses on it and does not have time to focus on important issues of the public. Therefore we see crime levels going up and engulfed with more issues. If the party is united it would be easy to focus on real issues in the country,” he said.
He added the ANC was seriously bruised, however its members needed to be taught and it must produce quality leaders. Talking about service delivery, he said it was bad that there is a notion of black people being given substandard service delivery.
“Everyone needs to receive quality service delivery,” said Zwane.
Moreover he said it is imperative that the ANC does introspection, makes peace and comes back to the public to admit its mistakes.
“We need to make peace within the organisation and come back to the public to apologise for our mistakes and point them out,” he said.
Adding to what the party needs to fix in order to be what it used to be, Zwane said the ANC needs to rebuild its structures.
“ANC needs to rebuild the women’s league, the Youth League and the MKMVA because these are the important structures of the party,” Zwane said.
