As the festive season approaches, the Durban Caledonian Pipe Band and Friends are inviting Durbanites to join them for the 12th annual “Carols and Kilts”, a festive spectacle that promises to blend the enchanting sounds of highland music with the beloved melodies of Christmas.

The production takes place at the Shongweni Farmers Market on Saturday, December 7, and again at the DLI Hall in Greyville on Sunday, December 8.

The performances will feature a rich array of well-known Christmas carols alongside bagpipe favourites like “Highland Cathedral” and “Auld Lang Syne”.

Attendees will also delight in contemporary hits which include John Farnham’s “The Voice”, “The Gael” from Last of the Mohicans and Leonard Cohen's poignant “Hallelujah”.

The band will be joined by a talented ensemble of musicians. Special guests lending their talents to the performance are Garth Strydom on electric guitar, Nick Mowbray on keyboard and Cassie Rae on vocals.

Enhancing the evening are dancers Samantha Wood and Melissa Alberts from Celtic Heartbeat.

This year’s concert promises something for everyone, ensuring that the festive spirit is alive and well.

Where: The Shongweni Farmers Market on Saturday, December 7, at 4pm and the DLI Hall in Greyville on Sunday, December 8, at 2pm.

Cost: Tickets cost R120 for adults and R60 for kids. They are available through Quicket.

Festive Fashion and Pop-Ups at Glenwood Village

The bustling Glenwood Village is set to come alive with the spirit of the festive season on Friday, December 6, with an afternoon fashion show and a pop-up market that promises to delight families and fashion enthusiasts alike.

Hosted by Roberta Alessandri Models and Events, the family fashion show will showcase styles for all ages, featuring contributions from a variety of clothing outlets within the centre.

The Fifth will present an elegant range of special occasion attire that includes women's day, evening, cocktail and party wear.

Additionally, two unique pop-up stores will open their doors upstairs. Shoppers can expect to find bespoke, locally made garments crafted in eye-catching shwe-shwe fabrics, along with an exquisite selection of quality accessories including leather bags, hair clips and jewellery from Vittoria and Co.

Glenwood Village Management is also inviting shoppers to unwind at one of the on-site coffee shops while enjoying front-row views of the fashion show.

Glenwood Village's Steve King said: “Increasingly, we understand the need to nurture a sense of neighbourhood in places where we gather and what better occasion to celebrate our shared community than over the festive season.”

Christmas Night Markets at Crocworld Conservation Centre

As the festive season approaches, families looking for joyous activities need look no further than the Crocworld Conservation Centre in Scottburgh.

Nestled along the picturesque KZN South Coast, the centre is set to host the highly anticipated Crocworld “Carols by Candlelight Day and Night Market” on Saturday, December 14, promising a full day of entertainment and interaction with the diverse range of wildlife that calls this conservation facility home.

Susan Badat, manager of Crocworld Conservation Centre said: “The festive season is such an amazing time on the KZN South Coast and we’re looking forward to welcoming holidaymakers and our regular guests for some new and exciting activities at Crocworld.

“The sunny days call for time spent outdoors in nature, meeting our charismatic animals and enjoying a really great day out for the whole family. Add in the craft market and zip-lining adventures, and there’s no better place to be than Crocworld this summer holiday.”

Featuring live entertainment from the talented violinist, Marianna, the market will be a hub of festive joy. Attendees can indulge in an assortment of food and craft stalls while experiencing the enchanting atmosphere enhanced by twinkling Christmas lights.

For the younger visitors, a specially designed Bubble House will offer countless moments of delight.

Those seeking adventure can take part in Jikaleza Aerial Adventures, the centre's on-site zip-lining option, which will be available throughout the day and into the evening.

Additionally, guests can relax at the Beer Garden hosted by Fish Eagle Café.

The “Carols by Candlelight Christmas Service”, which will be led by the Coastal Revival Centre Church, will start at 6.30pm. Visitors are encouraged to bring home-made decorations to adorn the community Christmas tree. Attendees can also donate presents to be delivered to the District 49 children’s home in Umkomaas.
