Moms right on cravings claim

Paris - Mothers who claim their babies crave the same foods they ate during pregnancy turn out to be right.

A team from France's National Centre for Scientific Research tested the response of 24 newborns, half of whose mothers had eaten anise - the main flavour in aniseed - during pregnancy. The infants were exposed to anise odour immediately after birth and again four days later.

Those born to anise-consuming mothers responded to the smell, but the others either ignored it or turned away. - Sapa-AFP
