Durban - KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Health Nomagugu Simelane encourages people, especially those with chronic illnesses, to continue wearing masks and sanitising despite the lifting of all Covid-19 restrictions.

She said people should continue to wash their hands and sanitise regularly, wear masks and keep social distancing to protect themselves from Covid-19.

Simelane said since the restrictions have been lifted and people can live their lives as normal, it was important for people to take ownership of their health.

“Our lives are in our hands. Though things look like they are back to normal, however, there are still infections being reported daily.”

Simelane says Covid-19 vaccination numbers also remained low.

“We have only vaccinated around 2.9 million people, and we find that people are still sceptical to get the jab. We don’t have a cure for Covid-19, so the vaccination is another way for people to protect themselves.”

She adds that 4.3 million people have not yet been vaccinated.
