Durban - Two men who invaded a Bonela home in central Durban on Sunday and robbed the residents at gunpoint were arrested when they returned to the area where they had dumped a bakkie taken in the robbery.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said on Sunday, October 30, that the Cato Manor police task team had responded to a report of a house robbery on Palace Place in the Bonela area.

Gwala said it was alleged that a group of armed men arrived in a vehicle, stormed the property, and forced the kitchen door open.

“They held the occupants at gunpoint and stole two TVs, cellphones, a microwave and other items, which they loaded into the complainant's bakkie,” she said.

Gwala said the team swiftly responded and the bakkie was found abandoned on Khwebezane Road, in Lamontville.

“A short while later, the vehicle that was used in the commission of the crime arrived in the same area, and the suspects were intercepted,” said Gwala.

According to Gwala, the suspects were found in possession of the victim's two cellphones.

“Police also seized various bank cards from the suspects,” added Gwala.

Police said the two suspects, aged 18 and 26, were arrested and charged with house robbery.

They appeared before the Durban Magistrate's Court yesterday (November 2, 2022).

“They were remanded in custody until November 10, 2022,” said Gwala.
