New Delhi - A top Indian politician says WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange needs to be sent to an insane asylum for releasing a US Embassy cable critical of her.
The October 2008 cable called Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati a “virtual paranoid dictator” who once sent a private jet to Mumbai to pick up a new pair of sandals for her.
Mayawati told reporters on Tuesday that Assange needs to be institutionalised and that the release of the cable amounted to dirty politics.
Mayawati is a powerful leader of the nation's bottom caste who has been heavily criticised for her governance in India's most populous state. She faces elections next year. - Sapa-AP
