Scarcely had the dust settled after Friday's BMW's 3 Series launch than the guys at the Munich Skunk Works (aka M Division) came out with details of their M Sport package for the new Three.

It starts with an aerodynamic body kit with Shadowline trim that gives the admittedly conservative styling of the sixth-generation 3 Series a distinctly sharper edge, particularly the front treatment, where the bigger air intakes and stepped lower edge complement the car's signature "stretched" headlight clusters.

Tuned M Sport suspension drops the car 10mm closer to the tar, while the wheel-arches are filled by typically "M"-style double-spoked 18" rims - 19" hoops are an option, but you're likely to pay for them with a very harsh ride from the low-profile runflats.

Also optional are the special blue paint colour you see above (only available on M Sport models) and M Sport brakes with distinctive blue-finished callipers.

The blue theme continues inside with sports seats upholstered in a mix of fabric and alcantara and trim elements with blue accents. The performance-car feel is emphasised by M door-sill trims, an alloy dead pedal and a new M leather steering wheel.

If the car has a manual 'box it also has a short-shift M gearstick.
