It could only happen in Germany, the land of the no-speed-limit autobahn. Tuningwerk of Pudheim near Munich has boosted BMW's 750iL luxo-barge to a seriously intimidating 530kW and 1090Nm.

Included in the NR 7s package are a five or six-speed “sport automatic” transmission, carbon ceramic brakes and a handmade free-flow exhaust system.

Kerb weight with half a tank of petrol is down 120kg to 2030kg, thanks to the lighter brakes and exhaust, as well as carbon-fibre front styling components and body sills.

And what do you get when you give a two-tonne limo a 530kW kick up the butt? 0-100 in a “smooth” 3.5 seconds and 350km/h flat out, is what you get.

Tuningwerk will supply a BMW 750iL with the Stage II package for €198 000 (R2.14 million) ex factory, or you can have the Stage I package (395kW, 740Nm, 0-100 in 4.2 seconds and 310km/h) for only €169 800 (R1.83 million).
