A quiet night on the N8 near Botshabelo turned into a scene of horror when police discovered the bodies of two women, murdered inside a vehicle.
The gruesome discovery on Tuesday, has prompted a manhunt as authorities seek justice for the women.
The horrifying find was made around 11.45pm after Botshabelo police received reports of a stationary vehicle roughly six kilometers from the Botshabelo West Crossing.
Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered a white VW Golf TSI with a Lesotho registration plate. Inside, they found two women, aged 26 and 65, who had suffered multiple stab wounds.
"Emergency personnel were summoned to the scene, and the two were declared dead at the scene," said police spokesperson, Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli.
Initial investigations suggest an African male may have been in the vehicle with the victims prior to the discovery, Kareli said.
Police have yet to make an arrest but assured the public that "police in Boithuso and the Provincial Organised Crime Unit have launched a manhunt".
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
“Anyone who might have information on what happened is urged to send an anonymous tip-off on the MySAPS App,” said Kareli.
Investigation is ongoing.
