Limpopo police have arrested three suspects after they were allegedly found in possession of a suspected stolen Tractor-Loader-Backhoe (TLB) at a farm in Malipsdrift, under the Capricorn District.

Provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng, said an off-duty police officer received a tip-off about a towing truck transporting a suspected stolen TLB along the Mathabatha to Lekgwareng Road on Sunday after 10pm.

"Members of the visible policing unit and detectives on standby responded immediately and successfully intercepted the truck. Upon questioning, the driver and passenger failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the TLB, merely stating that they had been hired to transport it.

"Preliminary investigations confirmed that the TLB, valued at approximately R850,000, had indeed been stolen. The duo aged 29 and 32 were arrested on the spot," said Thakeng.

Meanwhile, the third suspect was arrested later with the assistance of community members.

He said the suspects, Puleng Hendrick Peta, 29, Ronald Moratladi, 31, were charged with business robbery and possession of suspected stolen property. While Josias Chauke Modiba, 26, was charged with business robbery.

They appeared before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. They will make their next appearance on March 10, 2025, for a formal bail application.

The provincial police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the police's swift response and the assistance from community members.

"This incident underscores the importance of public vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement to curtail crime. We encourage continued community collaboration as we strive to enhance safety in our district,” she said.
