In court proceedings, Leach's legal team said he had been upset at home and struggled with financial issues.

It was further revealed that Leach found out Terblanche was pregnant and he might not be the child's father.

Leading Leach's defense, Jodine Coertzen, added that her client was hurt by Terblanche and this fuelled his actions.

IOL previously reported that Leach had pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

He further implicated Terblanche's ex-husband Arnold Terblanche, in the murder.

He said Terblanche had come up with a plan to kill Arnold to benefit financially however, this changed after he met with Arnold and told him of Terblanche's plan.

Co-accused-turned-state-witness, Dylan Cullis, told the court of the events leading up to the 42-year-old woman's cruel demise.

Terblanche was fed copious amounts of drugs as well as a drug-laced cocktail. She was also suffocated with a pillow before the accused bundled her into a vehicle and dumped her body in a shallow grave.

Sentencing will take place at a later date.
