A Durban man was killed in a home invasion in Sarnia, Pinetown in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
According to a KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netsuinda Pinetown SAPS is investigating cases of house robbery and murder following an incident in which a 45-year-old man was allegedly shot and killed during a house robbery in the Sarnia area in Pinetown.
"It is reported that in the early hours of this morning, a family was sleeping when they heard the noise inside the house and noticed two armed men.
"The suspects reportedly opened fire, fatally wounding the victim at the scene. They robbed the family of their vehicle, cellphones, and other electronic appliances before fleeing the scene."
According to a police incident report the family had been asleep when the wife heard a noise and woke up to investigate.
The woman found two men in the lounge.
She screamed which alerted her husband.
The report further stated that the suspects opened fire on the husband.
The robbers made of with two cellphones, laptops, house keys, and a Toyota Corolla.
It is believed that suspects gained into the property by jumping over the fence or gate and accessing the home through a window.
Garrith Jamieson from ALS Paramedics Medical Services said they responded to reports of a shooting.
"Paramedics arrived on the scene to find SAPS on scene and were directed to the patient.
"Paramedics quickly assessed the patient and found that a man believed to be in his forties had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest and was in a critical condition.
"Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilize him on the scene however he went into a state of cardiac arrest. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man however his injuries were too severe and he was declared deceased on the scene."
