Four people miraculously survived a horror crash on Sunday afternoon on the M1 Higginson Highway in Chatsworth. 

ALS paramedics said the single-vehicle accident took place at around 4 pm near the Westcliffe offramp. 

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived on the scene to find that a single vehicle had somehow lost control and left the roadway before colliding with a tree.

"Paramedics assessed the scene and found that the four occupants had all sustained various injuries."

Jamieson said immediately more ambulances as well as Advanced Life Support Paramedics were dispatched to assist.

"Paramedics stabilized all of the injured on the scene before transporting three occupants to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required."

He said at this stage the events leading up to the crash are unknown however SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further.

On Saturday three people were killed on the R61 near Port Edward involving four vehicles. 

KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service said they responded to the scene and found three occupants had sustained fatal injuries and passed away before emergency services could reach the scene.

Four patients sustained critical injuries and were transported to hospital.
