Police have arrested a 46-year-old man in connection with an alleged road rage killing in the Durban area on Sunday. 

According to ALS Paramedics they responded to reports of a shooting on the Mangusuthu Highway near the KwaMnyandu Mall in Umlazi, South of Durban at around 11am. 

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived on the scene to find SAPS already in attendance with the area cornered off.

"Paramedics were shown to a male lying next to his SUV. They found a male believed to be in his forties who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

"He was assessed on the scene however his injuries were fatal and there was nothing Paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene."

According to police it is alleged the deceased got into an argument with another motorist.

"It is further alleged the deceased then assaulted the motorist he had an altercation with," said KZN police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza

"The other motorist pulled out his firearm and shot the deceased."

Police said the suspect was arrested by uMlazi Police members in connection with the shooting.

"He will appear in court soon."
