One of the major banks will next month receive an award from Neville Melville, the Banking Adjudicator, for the way in which it handled complaints from consumers.

The annual award for excellence in customer handling will be announced in Johannesburg on November 6 in recognition of the attempts made by banks to resolve complaints before they reach the adjudicator's office.

The award has been instituted to encourage banks to treat complaints in a fair and professional manner.

The name of the winning bank will be disclosed by research company Markinor, which conducted research among customers who, over the past six months, registered complaints with the five participating banks.
