Protection measures for ATM cards

If you're a First National Bank customer, hold on to your ATM card. The bank says from now on it's going to take a little more time and effort to get a new ATM card out of them.

It's not because they don't appreciate your account it's for your own protection, they say.

FNB media relations manager Ann Bramhill says the ease with which fraud is being committed has prompted the bank to decide that ATM cards can now only be replaced by a client's home branch.

This means it will no longer be possible to walk into any FNB branch, present you ID document and walk out with a new ATM card. It will now take FNB 24 hours to clear a new ATM card.

Bramhill says the bank has become seriously concerned about theft and fraud and is sure the inconvenience to clients is not as great as the possibility of loss.
