The original 1968 Ford Mustang GT driven by Steve McQueen in the film Bullitt was auctioned in December last year for $3.74million (more than R57million), making it the most valuable Ford Mustang in the world, according to Mecum Auctions.

The famous sequence was often copied in later films but never equalled in technique and originality.

Although McQueen, who died in 1980, was credited with the driving in the chase sequence, it was shared with his close friend, Bud Ekins, one of Hollywood’s top stunt drivers, who handled the more dangerous speeding shots.
