Johannesburg - American model and actress Barbie Ferreira is the latest celebrity to collaborate with internationally renowned Danish jewellery manufacturer and retailer Pandora. Here, she shares her thoughts about working with the brand, as well as some personal insights.

What does it mean to you to be part of this collective?

For me being part of the Pandora ME collective means having fun with dangles and medallions – really just customising your own jewellery and having a youthful, playful approach to your looks.

What do you think makes your style unique?

I like to play with my style and I like to find new ways to play with jewellery, with hair, make-up, clothes, anything super fun. Jewellery has always been a big part of my life – whether that’s jazzing up a little thrifted outfit or really conveying a look and a mood. I really like to find unique ways to use jewellery. I’ve always been a big proponent of fun, clunky jewellery, chains, mixed metals, having fun earrings and really customising my own look in whatever way I feel.

Can you tell us something that nobody knows about you?

I played field hockey in high school, pretty badly. I was a bench warmer in a really terrible team, so … We try, it’s all about trying!

What role does jewellery play in your styling and mood?

Jewellery has always played a huge role in my styling. My grandma is a huge style icon to me. She wears huge hoops, she wears a lot of bracelets and rings and they’re really big and really fun and really her, and she’s always inspired me. So I always look up to her for my jewellery needs.

What do you like most about being in your twenties?

What I like most about being in my twenties is that while it’s still cute to make mistakes sometimes – it’s starting to not get as cute. So it’s a learning process. Like when you’re a teenager you’re just a mess, then when you’re in your twenties you learn valuable lessons, so ... I’m still doing that.
