In Klerksdorp, a small town where familiarity defines daily life, few could have predicted that a teenager’s interest in computers would evolve into a notable tech career. Kgang Moloke, now an established software engineer, has turned his early fascination with technology into a career that spans leadership, entrepreneurship, and mentorship.

Armed with a master’s degree in Software Engineering, Moloke is the founder of Mampudi Labs, a tech start-up, and leads a software delivery team at a Bryanston-based development firm. He is also an expert in payment gateways and an IT thought leader. His podcast, Coding Culture, is gaining traction among software professionals.

“Growing up in Klerksdorp, I was always fascinated by how technology could solve real-world problems. My passion grew as I started exploring programming and understanding how tech could transform lives. Early on, the lack of software developers in a smaller town was a challenge, but I turned to online resources, open-source communities, and mentors who helped guide me. Resilience and a hunger to learn were key to overcoming those hurdles,” he says.

Moloke believes small-town origins should not limit ambition.

“For me, it’s about impact. Mampudi Labs was born out of a desire to create solutions that matter, especially in underserved communities. I’m driven by the endless possibilities technology offers and the opportunity to mentor the next generation of tech leaders. I have taken a step back from my role at Mampudi Labs and I am focused on my role as software delivery lead, not only for the business but also to have a big impact on growing people's knowledge and careers.”

His academic background, he says, gave him the technical and strategic foundation to lead and innovate.

“My master’s in Software Engineering played a pivotal role - it deepened my technical knowledge and taught me to think critically about software architecture and scalability. It also gave me the confidence to lead teams and explore innovative solutions in the field.”

Moloke previously led a Quality Analyst team that saved 10 000 work hours through automation. He sees AI as a tool that must be guided by ethical considerations.

“AI is a tool, and its future is shaped by human creativity and ethical decision-making. We have to ensure that AI is designed to serve humanity’s best interests, and that requires diverse, innovative minds working together. And automation isn’t about replacing people; it’s about freeing them to focus on more meaningful, strategic work.”

Looking ahead, Moloke aims to establish Coding Culture as a leading tech podcast in the country.

“I want to be remembered as someone who used tech to make a difference, inspired others to dream big, and helped build an inclusive, innovative future for the next generation. Coding Culture is my way of giving back. I want to demystify tech for people who might feel it is out of reach and inspire them to take their first steps. It’s also a great platform to reflect on my own journey and learn from others.”
