Skipper Morne van Wyk paved the way for the Knights as they coasted to an eight-wicket win over the Highveld Lions, handing the visitors their first loss of the T20 Challenge in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

Chasing 132 runs to win, the Knights reached their target with more than four overs to spare after Rilee Rossouw combined in a match-winning 83-run opening stand with Van Wyk.

Rossouw contributed 39 before he was eventually removed by part-time spinner Alviro Petersen in the 10th over.

Van Wyk, however, led the way, going unbeaten with a thunderous knock of 70 runs from 44 balls as he guided the hosts to victory.

Earlier, the Lions had been restricted to 131/5 after they won the toss and chose to bat.

Teenager Quinton de Kock and veteran captain Neil McKenzie anchored the Lions' innings with a 48-run partnership for the fourth wicket after the visitors had been reduced to 23/2 in the fifth over.

De Kock made 48 and McKenzie hit 45 not out, but their efforts were thwarted by the Knights attack who did well to give the home side's batsmen a comfortable target. – Sapa
