MAPUTO - Cape Town City grabbed the initiative with a 1-0 win over Costa do Sol in their CAF Confederations Cup first round, first leg clash at the Estádio Nacional do Zimpeto in Mozambique on Wednesday night.

The second leg will be played in Cape Town in two weeks’ time, but the result puts the Capetonians in pole position as they look to march on in this prestigious event.

With head Benni McCarthy absent, as he is in Europe as part of his UEFA Pro Licence course, City were coached by assistant Vasili Manousakis.

The Cape side again looked to their young brigade to do the job, with teenagers Shane Roberts and Zukile Kewuti starting in midfield.

The Citizens’ defence was well-marshalled by captain Robyn Johannes, goalkeeper Sage Stephens ensured that he kept a clean sheet, and the winning goal was scored by Sibusiso Masina.
