AmaZulu are bolstering their squad for the second half of the season, having signed striker Elmo Kambindu from Chippa United on Tuesday afternoon.
Kambindu arrives at Usuthu having failed to score a single goal in eight appearances for Chippa during the first half of the season.
The Namibian international will hope that his fortunes change with his new employers and that he’ll score goals, especially given that the team have been over-reliant on Hendrick ‘Pule’ Ekstein to strike.
Fellow new signing Bongani Zungu managed to score on his full debut for Usuthu when they beat Magesi FC with his lone strike last Saturday.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder joined the Durban-based club alongside Sandile Mthethwa, who was signed from Orlando Pirates, late last year.
The Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi-coached team haven’t only been signing players, but they’ve been cutting off deadwood to make space for the new personnel as well.
Junior Dion and Yanga Mjoli were the first players to be released during the current transfer window, as the pair joined fellow top-flight side Marumo Gallants on six-month loan deals.
The departure of Dion to Gallants shocked many, given that he was the team’s best poacher last season with nine goals before this campaign’s drought.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Olwethu Mzimela and defensive midfielder Siyanda Hlabangeza have joined Motsepe Championship leaders Durban City FC.
“The pair will spend the remainder of the season with Durban City, gaining valuable game-time and experience, while contributing to the club’s pursuit of promotion to the Premiership,” Durban City said in a statement.
After bagging their first win of the New Year against Magesi and their fifth in the Premiership under the co-coaches, Usuthu’s next league clash will be at home to Stellenbosch FC on January 23. | Independent Media Sport
