With just over 100 days to go before South Africa becomes the first African country to host a World Cup, the chief organizer of the tournament is marveling at his own personal journey.

Danny Jordaan recalled that under apartheid South Africa he was denied the right to vote and would not have been able to represent his country.

As an anti-apartheid activist in the 1970s, Jordaan campaigned to keep South Africa out of international sports. Today, he says South Africa is "inviting the whole world to come here."

Jordaan adds that he is confident the country will be ready - the stadiums are complete and some have already hosted games, and infrastructure is almost in place. - Sapa-AP
