Jane Pillay's quest for a peanut butter sandwich turned into a hilarious encounter on Saturday when a monkey stole her loaf of Albany white bread and her cream cracker biscuits

"I caught the culprit that stole my bread and stole my bloody biscuits, cream crackers," said Pillay in a hilarious video posted on social media.

"Just now I heard a big thud in my kitchen and I am wondering what the hell it is as my kitchen door was locked, so I tip-toed slowly into my kitchen and I saw my bread tin.

"The lid was out and the lid was lying on the floor. Now the only thing I had in that container was my cream cracker biscuits. The damn monkey came inside and it stole my cream cracker biscuits."

The video then shows the monkey eating a biscuit from the plastic - the box was nowhere in sight.

Pillay said before her helper left her home on Saturday, she left the loaf of bread on the kitchen counter.

"I was looking all over for the bread because I wanted to make a peanut butter sandwich but I couldn't find it. I called three people, including the domestic worker. I asked her if she left it in another place but she said she left it on the counter. I was so confused on how the bread went missing," said Pillay.

The door was closed and the windows, which have burglar bars, were open.

Soon thereafter, she heard a "thud" sound in the kitchen and cautiously walked toward it.  There on the floor was the container lid.

"When I peeked inside, my cream cracker biscuits were gone. It was a new packet. That's when I saw the monkey on the roof holding my cream cracker biscuits and two others nearby."

She said her neighbour told her earlier today that she was also confused when she found almost a loaf of bread in her backyard. It was most likely the same elusive loaf Pillay had been looking for.

While it had become a laughing matter, Pillay said she had been living in Merebank for several years and had not seen monkeys in or near her property.

"While the video may have evoked some laughs, I think it's important for people to know that monkeys are dangerous. And if they steal something from your kitchen, don't interfere with them to get it back."
