Cruise ships have become a favourite vacation choice for many travelers, offering a mix of relaxation, entertainment, and adventure.
However, while passengers enjoy the onboard activities and amenities, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes that most people never see.
A cruise ship worker recently went viral on TikTok, sharing some eye-opening secrets about life on the high seas.
In a clip that has garnered over 8.3 million views, TikTok user @your.beauty.dose shared insider details about the hidden realities of cruise ships.
“If passengers knew what really happens behind the scenes, they’d never look at cruises the same way,” the caption read.
One of the more sobering facts the worker revealed is that every cruise ship has a morgue tucked away below deck.
These morgues are used “more often than you’d think,” she explained, as they store the bodies of passengers who pass away during the trip until the ship reaches the next port.
The worker also shed light on some of the more playful, or let's say naughty, aspects of cruise life.
She mentioned that some passengers board cruises with the hope of meeting “like-minded” people for a good time.
One example she gave was the mysterious “Pineapple Rooms.”
If you spot a cabin door with an upside-down pineapple on it, it’s not just a quirky decoration.
“It’s a coded invitation,” she hinted, explaining that the upside-down pineapple is often a signal for guests looking for a different kind of fun.
She also warns that breaking the rules onboard can land you in the ship’s jail, which is a small, locked room where unruly passengers are held until the ship docks.
Another surprising revelation involved the food served on board.
While cruise ships are known for their endless buffets and gourmet meals, the worker shared that leftovers often get a second life.
“Ever had soup on a cruise? There’s a good chance it’s made from leftovers from yesterday’s buffet,” she revealed.
“Some dishes get reused instead of being thrown away,” she adds.
