Johannesburg - A 39-year-old principal from a Thabong high school was expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 18-year-old pupil from his school, Free State police said.
The principal was arrested on August 2, by members of Family Violence , Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, spokesperson Sergeant Mamello Mokhuoane said.
“On 24 July 2015 at about 11.55pm, the 39-year-old principal was delivering learners from his school to their respective places of residence with his private car after a school trip from Johannesburg. He allegedly delivered all the learners except for the complainant,” Mokhuoane said.
“When he got to the complainant’s street at a nearby corner, he allegedly stopped and asked the complainant to give him a hug and a kiss and ended up having sexual intercourse with the complainant without her consent.”
The case was opened on July 30, at around 3.30pm by the teenager’s mother and teachers after the 18-year-old pupil told one of her friends and teachers from her school.
The principal was expected to appear on Tuesday on a charge of rape.
