Johannesburg - Three suspects aged between 23 and 28 were arrested for robbery and theft in Bloemfontein, Free State police said.
Spokesperson Constable Peter Kareli said the robbery occurred on Wednesday. “An Ethiopian Tuck shop owner was busy offloading his goods at his tuck shop, when suddenly three unknown men surprised him and pointed him with a firearm.”
Kareli said the suspects searched the shop owner, 36, at gunpoint and allegedly took an undisclosed amount of cash and his vehicle keys then drove off in his Toyota Hilux bakkie.
“The vehicle fitting the description was spotted in Phase 3 but when the suspects realised that police are on their tail, they abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.”
All three suspects were arrested after they had been found hiding inside a chicken cage at one of the houses in Phase 3, Kareli said.
“A 9mm Norincho firearm with 7 live rounds was found and confiscated, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash robbed from the tuck shop owner.”
They are still to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court soon.
