The City of Cape Town intends to improve some of its most popular tidal pools along the Atlantic Seaboard ahead of the festive summer season.

The City’s coastal management branch with the recreation and parks department, will undertake urgent maintenance repairs to tidal pools at Camps Bay, Maiden’s Cove, Saunders and Milton.

Work to improve wall surfaces at the Camps Bay pool will commence on September 28 and take about three weeks to complete. The pool will remain open to the public during this time.

Saunders tidal pool will be closed for about two weeks to allow work for a safer access walkway.

Milton tidal pool will also be closed for two weeks to allow better water retention, while repairs to the valves and cracks at Maiden Cove's two tidal pools will commence.

The City's deputy mayor and mayco member for spatial planning and environment Eddie Andrews said utmost care will be taken to accommodate swimmers and beachgoers during the upgrade period.

“The intention is to improve the experience of all of those using the tidal pools, and importantly, to prolong the design life of these assets.

“We know the Atlantic Seaboard tidal pools count among the most popular recreational amenities in Cape Town.

“If all goes according to plan the work at all of the pools should be completed by the end of November, in time for the summer holiday season,” said Andrews.

The exact dates will be communicated to the public closer to the time.
