Cape Town - Police are hunting for the killers of a woman who was shot and killed in Gugulethu.
Images of the murder scene were posted on social media on Monday night and claims were that the woman was pregnant, but this could not be confirmed.
It is believed the woman was ambushed by brazen gunmen in NY3A Gugulethu just after 2.2pm yesterday.
Police have yet to make an arrest.
This is the second murder in just days in Gugulethu which has left residents shocked.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Andre Traut said: “The circumstances surrounding the death of an unknown female in her thirties are under investigation after she was shot and killed by an unknown suspect yesterday afternoon at around 2.25pm in NY3A Gugulethu.
“An arrest is yet to be made and the motive is yet to be established. Any person with information regarding the incident is kindly requested to contact Crime stop on 08600 10111.”
A week ago police were called to a scene in Malunga Street and NY8 where two men and one woman were killed.
Two other victims were rushed to hospital.
Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen said they were concerned by the latest mass shootings.
He said since March this year 26 people lost their lives in mass shootings in Khayelitsha.
He added since September 2020, 51 people had been fatally shot in Khayelitsha.
Siya Monakali of Ilitha Labantu, an organisation which advocates for women and children rights said they were concerned about the increase in murdered women,
“As an organisation that advocates for the rights of women and children for over 33 years, we are deeply concerned by the spike in the number of murders that have taken place in South Africa and particularly in the Western Cape.
“We want to focus on youth development because the faces we are seeing now are many women of colour who are victims and this paints a grim picture.”
